The Dorchester House offers a School-Based Health Center (SBHC) at the Harbor Middle School in Boston.
About the Program
As a satellite location of the health center, the SBHC is fully licensed and medical staff working at the SBHC are credentialed including behavioral health clinicians who are LICSW and LCSW professionals and a nurse practitioner. While insurance information is collected during the enrollment process, any enrolled student will be given requested services regardless of ability to pay. Services are provided to students who complete the SBHC enrollment process and for whom parental consent is obtained.
Services Offered:
- Primary Care: behavioral health care, mental health counseling, physical examinations, nutrition counseling, education on healthy behaviors, dental services
- Health Education: office visits and classroom based education — a nurse practitioner provides 1-on-1 health education counseling
- Collaboration with School and Community health fairs, sharing resources (for example, DHMSC distributes information about the health center’s resources to the school population, offering professional growth opportunities such as internships)
