From the moment a baby is born, he or she enters the medical world of Pediatrics — primary care for children from birth to 18 years of age. A newborn should visit a pediatrician 7 times in his or her first year of life. The newborn should be seen for the first time at 2 weeks of age and will receive his or her first immunization at 1 month. More immunizations should be scheduled at 2 months, 4 months, 6 months and 12 months of age to fully protect the baby.
When children reach their teen years, they may choose to see a pediatrician who practices in our Adolescent Health Clinic. In this practice, teens are treated more like grown-ups when they see the doctor, to help them become more comfortable discussing the sensitive health issues they face as they mature.
