Internal Medicine means primary care for adults over the age of 18. In most cases, when you register for health care, you are assigned to a Primary Care Physician (PCP). At Dorchester House, we have Doctors and Nurse Practitioners who see patients for regular check-ups, physical exams and, if available, when patients call in for an appointment with short notice because they are not feeling well.
If circumstances call for you to see a specialist, your Primary Care Physician will make a referral. Once you have seen a specialist, a report will be sent to your PCP, and you can talk to him or her about your follow-up care. Even if your continued care is under the supervision of a specialist, you can rely on your PCP to be involved.
