Nutrition Department

Welcome to the Dorchester House Nutrition Department.  Our Nutritionists will work with your primary care provider to help you better understand how the food you eat affects your health. 

We provide individualized Medical Nutrition Therapy for the following illnesses:

Your first appointment with the nutritionist will last approximately 30-45 minutes.  At the end of the first appointment, you will have specific goals and a plan that will be your first step towards improved health.  Most patients return for a nutrition follow up appointment.

In addition to individual appointments, the Nutrition Department offers ongoing group nutrition education including:

Diabetes Group for adults meets weekly. An English language group meets on Thursday evenings. The Vietnamese language group meets Thursday mornings. Insurance is accepted for this program.

Healthy Weight for Life Clinic is for families of overweight children 6-12 years old.  This is a 4-month program that combines parent education and swim lessons for children.  It is offered twice a year in September and January. Insurance is accepted.

Weight Watchers meetings are at 6:00pm on Thursdays in the Multipurpose roomMeetings are $10.00 each, subsidized memberships are available for Boston residents who qualify.  Ask our nutritionists, or your Provider for details.

How do I make an appointment?

Appointments are generally scheduled by a Medical Assistant with a referral from a DotHouse Health Primary Care Provider.

Appointments can also be scheduled by calling the Appointments Line at 617-740-2320 or Nutritionists at 617-740-2636/617-740-2596.

Do I need to be a Dorchester House patient to be seen by the nutritionist?

No. You do not need to be a DotHouse Health patient to be seen by a nutritionist. Our Nutrition Department does accept outside referrals.
