Director of Oral Health
The Director of Oral Health will plan, organize and direct activities which provide specialized dental care services for pediatric, adolescent and adult patients and will, after assessment, reengineer the dental practice to ensure optimum levels of efficiency and quality. This position will be a member of the clinical leadership team at the Health Center level to meet the patient and community-focused goals of the organization.
MAJOR PRACTICE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordination of the Clinical Area and Patient Care
- Provide direct patient care and clinical teaching for pediatric, adolescent and adult patients.
- Manage patient grievances, particularly in relation to the quality of care provided.
- Develop schedules that meet the needs of the patients while allowing for maximization of provider productivity.
Operations Management
- Develop budgets and continually monitor key cost areas.
- Prepare cost/benefit analyses as needed in the development of new services or for the enhancement of existing services.
- Monitor the services productivity and establish provider goals.
- Staff work area with appropriately qualified employees.
- Establish clear work objectives that prioritize and focus employee efforts.
- Allocate and delegate work effectively to make efficient use of resources and employee capabilities.
- Maintain appropriate inventory par levels and order sufficient quantities to prevent delays in services and minimize excessive stocking.
Performance Management
- Maintain Joint Commission standards, safety and infection control polices and procedures.
- Review and update the specific policies and procedures for the Dental Service at least every three years.
- Ensure that preventive maintenance inspections are performed on patient care equipment by the due date.
- Provide opportunity for skill development for employees and ensure competency with equipment utilized in the provision of direct or indirect patient care at least annually.
- Maintain performance improvement activities in the Dental Service and participate in organizational performance improvement activities.
- Encourage staff participation in performance improvement initiatives.
Personnel Management
- Recruit and hire staff that reflect the community and patients Dorchester House serves.
- Ensures adequate staffing for the provision of services.
- Complete performance evaluations by or within 30 days of the established review date.
- Ensure that staff completes mandatory training by or within 30 days of the established review date.
- Implement progressive disciplinary action according to Human Resources Policies.
- Responsible for providing proper educational programs for the dental interns and residents, and for overseeing the quality of care they deliver through performance evaluations, record reviews and presentations.
- Responsible for Quality Control.

BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:
- Doctorate in Dentistry with a minimum of 5 years dentistry experience.
- Proven practice management leadership ability, resulting in efficient and effective operations.
- Familiarity with a variety of dental practice models, including those that feature Dental Hygienists.
- Management style that fosters empowerment, collaboration, and professional development, and has been proven effective in the hiring and management of a variety of dental staff.
- Team player, mentor, and facilitator who can lead staff though change while maintaining high levels of staff and patient satisfaction and mission focus.
- Superior organizational, analytical/problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
- History of effectiveness in mentoring, training and supporting dental staff, both on the team and individual levels.
- Interest and commitment to public and community health.
- Familiarity with Medicaid and state reimbursement ideal, but not mandatory.
